So the big news story so far in baseball this year has been Alex Rodriguez using steroids. How does Alfredo Rodriguez feel like it??? Well when i first heard it through text message from my cousin, I was like damn I cant believe it, I thought somebody was out to ruin his image honestly. But when he very humbly held that press conference and admitted to using them and then apologizing, I just really admired his honesty and I think that is the best decision he could have made. Now of course the media and everyone else is blowing that situation out of proportion, I mean I really bet no one will really care 2-3 years from now. Well maybe, if he breaks Henry Aarons record, but whatever. Anyways I think the Yankees over payed CC Sabathia and AJ Burnett, honestly they are two Above average pitchers at best, but not Cy Young winners like Sabathia was payed like. But hey there the Yankees they always overpay, they did get a decent deal for Teixiera, and I was happy that we signed Andy for a cool 5.5 million. Lets just hope we get far in the playoffs with an aging squad is all I am asking, and I really hope Derek puts in one last epic year this year, I mean something like hitting .330 with 20+ homers and 200 hits would be exceptional.
Basketball: So im still cheering for the Celtics all the way. I was just glad that Nate Robinson one the dunk contest, at least we got one Knick was repping. Dwyane Wade is carrying the Heat on his back, no one is helping and Mike Beasly is a bit disappointing to say the least. I still think the Heat are making the playoffs, but they are not going far.
Wow, Barack Obama is president, I supported this guy since October 2007 and I knew from the beginning he was going to win the presidency, despite so many people saying that a black man will never be president. I was so proud to vote for him in the elections. From the time I was 12 or 13 years old I was fascinated about the concept of democracy. As a middle school student, I used to ponder of the liberty that was fought for during the American Revolution to the fascinating origins of democracy in Ancient Athens. The concept that I most loved was the idea of direct democracy, the direct democracy that was practiced in Ancient Athens was a epic story for me, all the citizens (well Athenian males) had the right to directly vote on laws. So this got me thinking what would it be like to have direct democracy here in the United States. I remember pondering that with the advent of the internet back in 1998, there was a chance in the future to create a fully secure system of voting that could be used to implement direct democracy. Of course we are still years away from seeing my vision become a reality, my system would need an educated populace that values the idea of democracy as crucial to one's duty as a citizen of the nation and encourages rational discourse and debate all while holding the idea of liberty to the highest esteem. However I am happy to know and inform you that there are still many forms of direct democracy that still takes place in 26 states here in the United States, Florida being one of them, We have the constitutional amendment initiative which can add amendments to the state constitution.
As Barack Obama's new administration and system of government take shape, I am more excited than ever on the evolution of democracy in the 21st century. I urge everyone to go check out www.change.gov (now www.whitehouse.gov). This is the new administrations website and I am simply amazed at how Obamas vision is manifesting in this website. I love the constant news and youtube video which has Obama and many other officials give a more personal view of policy and government. They also encourage discussion in their many forums and added a Youtube like blog feature which also encourages comments, feedback, and discourse through a unique ratings system in which online users vote to keep the most relevant debates at the top of the line. I just saw a video with Tom Daschle, that national health adviser, reading off comments and questions and actually agreeing and promising to work on some great ideas as proposed by citizens on health care. If we can integrate Representative Democracy with this kind of new interaction that resonates withe direct communication with the people, I can only imagine what we can propose in the future and I continue to anticipate the development and evolution of democracy as heralded by the new presidents administration. I encourage everyone to be more involved regardless of perspective and that is the promise of this new administration.
Wow, the US economy is in tatters right now, the senate and the house are debating over the 800 billion economic recovery and reinvestment act.
What I think should happen is to put as much money as we can in developing alternate energy.
I have learned so much this past year or so, been thru so many experiences both good or bad. Out of all the wreckage I do believe that Barack Obama is the best candidate for the presidency, I have so much to talk about and so little time to say, I will just post up my latest blog post, but i do plan to post on this regularly!
Hilary’s chances of winning the democratic nomination.
Quote: Overall,
Obama's delegate lead is 1,645-1,507. That masks an even larger
advantage among those won in primaries and caucuses. There, his
advantage is 1,414-1,250.
An additional 566 are at stake in the
remaining contests in eight states, Guam and Puerto Rico before the
primary season ends on June 3.
If Obama captures 53 percent of
them, which is the share he has gained in contests to date, he would
close out the primary season with at least 1,945 delegates, only 80
less than the total needed to clinch the nomination. If he and Clinton
split the 566 evenly, he would still be within 100 of the number needed.
Clinton
needs to win a forbidding 65 percent of the delegates in the remaining
primaries to draw even with Obama in pledged delegates. It's a share
she has achieved only once so far, in Arkansas, where her husband was
governor for more than a decade.
Given the unyielding delegate
math, Clinton has relied for weeks on forbearance from party leaders to
sustain her challenge. And they are growing restless, eager for the
epic nomination battle to end so Democrats can unify for the fall
campaign against John McCain and the Republicans.
In fact, it's unlikely any other candidate could have survived as long without coming under overwhelming pressure to withdraw.
"There
aren't many figures in American politics who could sustain 11 straight
losses and hang into a race and raise $35 million," Obama said at The
Associated Press annual meeting recently. "So in that sense she's
unique, and the fact that former President Clinton is there, too, and
the structure that he has of loyalty all across the country and the
brand name that they have makes it very tough." Source: http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080418/...eDq5y.dsnw cF
According
to my rough estimates Hilarys chances of winning the democratic
nomination is 15%, Barack Obama has a 85% chance of winning the
nomination. Hilary has to win double digit blowouts in each of the
remaining primaries to even catch up to Barack Obama and surpass him.
Something that has happened so far only in Arkansas. I am really happy
with the direction the democratic party and the United States is going
in terms of accepting Barack Obama for who he is.
Alex Rodriguez coming back to the Yankees? (plus my opinion on Scott Boras)
"After
spending time with Cynthia and my family over these last few weeks, it
became clear to me that I needed to make an attempt to engage the
Yankees regarding my future with the organization.
Prior to
entering into serious negotiations with other clubs, I wanted the
opportunity to share my thoughts directly with Yankees' ownership. We
know there are other opportunities for us, but Cynthia and I have a
foundation with the club that has brought us comfort, stability and
happiness.
As a result, I reached out to the Yankees through
mutual friends and conveyed that message. I also understand that I had
to respond to certain Yankees concerns, and I was receptive and
understanding of that situation.
Cynthia and I have since spoken
directly with the Steinbrenner family. During these healthy
discussions, both sides were able to share honest feelings and hopes
with one another, and we expect to continue this dialogue with the
Yankees over the next few days. " -Alex Rodriguez
ALFREDO RODRIGUEZ'S TAKE:
10 years/280 million = Insanity....no one deserves this kind of money
especially a manipulative son of a bitch. Even if it was Scott Boras'
fault.
Drama is defined by the relationship of Alex Rodriguez
and the Yankees. I hated A-Rod after he opted out of his contract, its
sort of like when you break up with a significant other after a long
relationship, your feelings are so mixed you don't know what to feel.
On one hand I feel that Alex (or at least Scott Boras) should never be
forgiven and always hated for what they did for what he did, on the
other hand he was my favorite player, he shares my last name, he is
arguably the greatest hitter of this generation ...still its extremely
confusing.
Alex for 10/280 is insane, honestly if I were Hank
Steinbrenner or Brian Cashman I would not do it. But they run the
team....not me.
The Yankees will be criticized, hated and
scrutinized now more than ever, and history will be a testament, just
because of the greatest hitter of this generation, Alex Emmanuel
Rodriguez.
Get ready for the eternal stream of hate Yankee fans, Get ready!
Thanks ALEX!
PERSONAL OPINION ON SCOTT BORAS:
All
this drama just confirms that Scott Boras is a Machiavellian Parasite,
and a despicable human being. I knew that Alex deep in his heart never
wanted to opt out of his contract, but that conniving power hungry
egoistical son of a bitch Scott Boras manipulated him to do it and make
him an enemy to all Yankees. I always knew Alex wasnt a bad person, but
he was always easily manipulated by the evil Scott Boras, whatever
there is no use of complaining its done. Scott Boras is one of the most
despicable men in the universe.
Bella was a good movie but it had the potential to be so much more. The
basis of the story was excellent, a story about a soccer player who had
everything a man can desire, until a fateful incident changes his life
forever, and then how a friendship with a co-worker, a women he barley
knows, and how he helps her make the best decision of her life. Even
with its briefness, Bella, is a good movie. It could've used more
character development and more depth towards the character, it also
felt like it was missing some chapters to the story. But nevertheless
it was a good film with a great message, I will be honest and say it
had the potential to be so much better. But it was exceptional
nevertheless. I recommend everyone to watch it. A story about
friendship and love.
What was even more amazing than the movie,
was the true story of the main actor, this was a man who in real life
had everything, he was handsome, rich, and famous. Yet he still felt
empty, until he discovered catholicism and faith again. His story is
one of the most inspirational i have ever witnessed.
What a wonderful man, he lost all his selfishness to be an loving instrument of God
